Since we have discussed the focal points and drawbacks of hose kinds of correspondence we would now be able to concentrate on HAIFA and how it relates to the entirety of this. HAIFA is the Health Insurance Accountability Act and is utilized to help ensure patients by giving those rights over the utilization of any or potentially the entirety of their clinical data (Longer, 2006). This Act likewise furnishes patients with specific impediments on who can approach their data. In my circumstance a significant number of the patients that must be migrated have not endorsed the arrival of their data. As a result of this there will be some rushes, however as indicated by HAIFA there can be some PHI ensured wellbeing data) that can be uncovered (Longer, 2006). A few models are data for treatment. Data for installment of treatment, and data for execution of medicinal services activities. This can incorporate however isn't constrained to general organization, money related and some lawful perspectives required working a medicinal services establishment. This is the revelation that I would use in this circumstance to help in the migration procedure of the people who will never again be with us here. In end as the director it is my obligation to comply with HAIFA and just reveal data that is important to keep up the office. It is likewise my obligation to guarantee that everything runs easily through the change and that everybody is cheerful over the long haul. The Genetic Basis of Adaptive Melanism on Pocket Mice Essay examples --

Presentation What's the issue? Instances of creatures adjusting to the earth have been referred to as far back as the instance of the dark peppered moths of England in the mid-1800s. All things considered, whole populaces of the dark peppered moths were seen to change shading in light of changes in their condition. All the more as of late, microscopic organisms have been known to create protection from anti-microbial medications, bugs have created different types of protection from bug spray, and plants have adjusted to suit more elevated levels of overwhelming metals in the dirt and water. The issue is that it is hard to find the qualities that animate adjustment for three reasons: 1. Attributes must be recognized dependent on how they influence wellness and their natural importance. As it were, we have to discover an attribute that plainly has any kind of effect in whether the creature endures. 2. It is trying to investigate phenotypes when there is little data thought about qualities. With the moths, no one knows which of the moth's qualities are answerable for the adjustments in shading, so a hereditary examination is amazingly hard to do. 3. Most wellness related characteristics are a blend of numerous qualities. This makes it difficult to nail down the adjustments because of the activities of one quality. So where do the mice come in? Dr. Nachman's examination investigates the association among genotype and coat shading in four populaces of rock pocket mice. Rock pocket mice live in rough natural surroundings in the southwest U.S. what's more, northern Mexico. During the 1930s, old style examines uncovered that there was a nearby relationship between's the shade of a mouse's jacket, and the shade of the stones the mouse lived on. Light-shaded mice... ...is mice, the alleles didn't seem, by all accounts, to be answerable for any adjustments in coat shading. The comparability between coat shade of the dim mice at Pinacate and the dim mice at Armendaris is most likely because of concurrent advancement. The Armendaris mice most likely developed a similar adjustment (dull coat shading) through a different hereditary instrument. An intriguing examination venture may be to decide the hereditary premise of adjustment in the Armendaris populace, and make correlations. Any such outcomes would be gigantically valuable in demonstrating how development influences singular qualities. References Nachman, Michael W. Expectation E. Hoekstra, Susan L. D'Agostino. The new HR supervisor with the assistance of Jim’s father, will overview the present workers to become acquainted with them better and to get ready for work examination. 2. Suggest what Bandag should change as well as enhance in regards to the present HR frameworks, structures, and practices the organization currently employments. Answer: Bandag should disavow all contacts with the outside HR firm that had been employed already. Presently, the new HR chief will totally isolate Bandag from the outer offices. He will have arranged the HR strategies that work alongside the company’s new system. Every single required structure will be inside produced. To guarantee freedom from the HR offices, the administrator will enroll two HR associates to help. One will be answerable for the enlisting, arranging, and preparing of new representative and worker support. The subsequent will be answerable for assessing current workers, following advancements, appropriate advising and terminating of representatives, and preparing current workers on new approaches. Obviously, the lawful piece of HR that Jim had numerous issues with will presently be the obligation of the HR administrator. At long last, Jim, Jim’s father, and HR will assess the impact of the new unit on Bandag Automotive and its HR issues. The issues confronting Bandag car result from an absence of a committed HR staff. Jim’s strategies are not off-base, yet they are applied in the incorrect way. In the event that the HR unit isn't made it will prompt proceeding with issues and the hole between the representatives and boss will be expanded. At long last, poor HR the board will give Bandag Automotive a terrible notoriety and will prompt a drop in quality, loss of clients and lower benefit. 3. Jim terminated a worker for making what the chief called a noxious relationship. Clarify whether the representative has an authentic case against the organization and the moves the organization should make. Answer: Henry Jacques was terminated on the grounds that his director announced that while he was doing the specialized an aspect of his responsibilities well, he had significant issues associating with his collaborators and was making his store toxic. Jim affirmed Henry’s excusal. Despite the fact that Henry’s supervisor had heard that he has a psychological instability, he didn't consider while assessing Henry. Henry likewise never carried it to his management’s consideration in the event that he surely has a psychological illness. In that case Henry doesn't have a genuine case against Bandag Automotive. He was cautioned in his presentation evaluations that he had issues working in a group domain, and he never raised the way that he has an inability. As per the Americans with Disabilities Act, the representative must build up he has a secured handicap. Additionally, we need more data on Henry’s guarantee to know whether this is his safeguard. We accept he was terminated suitably; notwithstanding, the proper activity in this circumstance was to initially move Henry to another position and to give him a last admonition. In this position, a large portion of his work ought not be in a group. On the off chance that he keeps on being dangerous when dealing with his own, a release would be progressively suitable. 4. Miriam, the controller, is fundamentally asserting that the organization is fighting back against her for being pregnant, and that the way that the organization raised execution issues was only a smokescreen. Clarify whether the EEOC as well as courts would concur with her and the moves the organization should make now. Answer: Miriam had been with Bandag Automotive for a long time. She went on pregnancy leave for twelve weeks under the FMLA, and afterward got an additional three-week leave under Bandag’s expanded sickness days program. Miriam was as of late terminated by Jim in light of the fact that she had been turning her financial plans in late and potentially manufactured a few records. In the event that we accept that Jim’s claims are strong, he reserved an option to fire her for wrongdoing. We accept that her case of unfair release identified with her pregnancy is unwarranted. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), as we would like to think, won't concur with her and won't battle the case for her benefit. What's more, she continued labor for a quarter of a year after her leave, and might be furious in light of the fact that her solicitation to alter her calendar was can't. In the event that she wasn’t content with her calendar she could have stopped. Bandag’s HR framework bombed here in light of the fact that a set of working responsibilities and agreement could have recommended explicit working hours, which she would need to comply with. 5. A representative who is hard of hearing has requested to change employments to be a conveyance individual and he was turned down. He is presently taking steps to sue. Suggest what the organization ought to do and portray why. Answer: A truck support representative who is hard of hearing, went after a position driving one of Bandag’s appropriation trucks, and Jim straightforwardly turned him down due to his inability. We accept that the representative will win on the off chance that he sues Jim, except if Jim can demonstrate that the worker was denied on the grounds that there were increasingly qualified candidates and not the slightest bit due to his incapacity. However it is still truly unsafe on the grounds that the court framework is exceptionally exacting about the Americans with Disabilities Act. In the event that the hard of hearing representative can demonstrate that Jim imagines that is ridiculous for an incapacitated individual to drive a truck, he will win and cause money related and open harms to the organization. Our answer for alleviate the issue is to rescreen all candidates, including the worker to check whether he is equipped for the activity. In the event that he is, extend to him the employment opportunity on the off chance that he is as yet intrigued, and he will ideally drop the case.

When Jay Pharoah Comes to Campus for Homecoming

When Jay Pharoah Comes to Campus for Homecoming Theres not a more exciting time to be at Illinois than for Homecoming. Homecoming week at Illinois is truly a celebration of the school, and theres a bunch of fun events held for students and the alumni. I know one popular thing that students love about Homecoming is every day during the week, the Illini Union usually hands out free food on the Quad! Yesterday they gave out Einstein Bros. bagels out to students. College students always love the opportunity of free food. The most exciting thing planned for Homecoming so far was when Saturday Night Live alum Jay Pharoah came to do stand-up comedy on the Quad. Im a huge stand-up comedy and Saturday Night Live fan myself, so this was an opportunity I couldnt miss. The best part of the event was that it was free! All you needed was your student i-card! The event was held at Anniversary Plaza, which is located on the Quad side of the Illini Union. It was cool seeing a live comedy show on the Quad where all my classes are. It really transformed into an event where hundreds of students brought blankets to watch the comedian. Seeing someone who Ive seen on national television come to Champaign-Urbana was simply surreal. During the show, Pharoah did his impeccable Barack Obama and Denzel Washington impression. The students laughed at his brilliant jokes for 90 minutes. Im looking forward to future Homecoming events where we can get more comedians to come to campus. The school truly wants to make Homecoming a great experience for its students, and thats what I love about Illinois. Daniel Class of 2018 I’m an Advertising major in the College of Media. I’m from a northwest suburb of Chicago called Buffalo Grove. I chose Illinois because it was the first university in the entire world to offer an Advertising major, which is pretty cool!

The Time Series as the Sequences of Data Points Research - 3300 Words

The Time Series as the Sequences of Data Points Research (Other (Not Listed) Sample) Content: Name of the student;Institutional affiliation;Time SeriesTime series is the sequence of data points typically measured at successive intervals. These data points have the same space between one point to another. This data is collected over a given period, and the data always correlate with each other. This data always is always collected to given time; there should be the close relationship between the data collected and time hence the name time series. Some of the examples of this time series include; tides and sunspots. Time series forecasting this involves using the data collected through analyzing the data through the use of models. Time series data can be used statistically to plot a graph, i.e., line graph which can be used to predict future events. Time series is usually very important and in each and every organization. Some of the importance of time series include; helpful in forecasting, evaluating the achievements, comparison, etc. (Montgomery, Jennings, Kulahci,2011)Studying behavior- time series help in analyzing the behavior of the organization through data collected at a given data points, for example, analyzing at what point in time is the organization performing well regarding profit making and when it is making losses. Hence, this has enabled me understand my organization well and be in the position to overcome challenges during the depression or when an organization is not doing well.Helps in forecasting- the best competition tool of organizations at this era is that they should be in position utilize is the ability to forecast or predict the future. The success of each and every organization is the ability to plan its future well. For example, a firm should be in the position to know when the demand is high and when demand is low. When demand is high, then an organization can arrange for more supplies and when demand is low then it can reduce its supply. This has been the best tool that has helped my organization to avoid over/undersupply at any given time.Evaluating achievements- time series analysis has helped me as a manager in my organization in understanding whether it is performing well or not. Through drawing a line graph of time series on performance, which can shows an upward trend when an organization is performing well and downward trend when it is performing poorly. This can help the organization make corrections or put in place better policies which will promote the performance of the organization in future.Helps in comparison- time series help in comparing two business or the branches of the firm. As a manager time series has enabled me in analyzing my branches by comparing them. This enables I to know which firm is performing well and which one is not performing well and I can be in the position to provide rewards to those firms doing well and those not performing well I can provide the necessary remedies. In conclusion, time series analysis is very important because to each and every o rganization to succeed then it has to understand itself regarding performance, achievements, behaviorally, etc. Each and every organization should ensure use of this method when necessary of forecasting if it is to succeed. A successful business is the one which is in the position to forecast its prospects. In this case, it will be in a position to evade any possible loss that might occur. Time series is done by ensuring that proper planning and putting in place better policies ( Box, Jenkins, Reinsel, Ljung,2016).Forecasting using time seriesDuring forecasting, time series data is usually very important. Many organizations rely on data produced by accountants to forecast prospects of the firm. Company treasures this policy of forecasting since they can be in the position to remedy any future action that can be detrimental to company operations. In this way time series data is very important in forecasting of something that keeps on changing over the long period for example prices of stock, sales figures, and profit. Always, anything that is observed from time to time sequentially is called time series. (Dannecker, 2015)The major aim of forecasting time series data is to be able to determine and get a clue or understanding on how and for how long the observation will continue to future. There are different methods of calculating time series; they include; moving averages, the least square regression method, freehand method, semi-average method and also smoothing method.Moving averages involve calculating the quarter averages to calculate the seasonal components which will, in turn, be used to calculate the deseasonalized components, which will be used to will in turn used to forecast the prospects of the business. Moving averages smooth the data by averaging the consecutive observations in time series. This method can be used when the data you are calculating do not have trend components. When calculating or predicting the future with regression, the data of t ime series is very important in this situation. One of the assumptions underlying these estimation method tests the errors that are found are not correlating with each other. This method is considered to be the best. It always uses of regression formulae in predicting the future. The freehand method involves use of a just graph to predict the future happenings one draws the graph which in the long run he or she can be extrapolated to show the levels or quantity of something in future. This is the easy method and can be used by those who do not understand time series deeply since it does not involve a lot of calculations.Forecasting using calculation and graphical method. The major use of time series is to forecast in a firm, for example, forecasting the total quantity demand or some sales a firm can make in near future. The value of a variable for example sales always change over a given period and this change can either be an upward or downward trend. These general changes of this va riable for example sale, demand or profitability over a given period is called the trend. There are many techniques used in calculating time series in statistics; these methods include; moving average, smoothing, freehand method and least square regression method. The most common method used in time series additive components.Example; when data below is provided by the sales of coca cola company during thirteen months which are grouped three months in each quarter Using calculation to forecastDate Quantity sold (à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"000) Jan-mar 1996 239 Apr-June 201 Jul-sep 182 Oct-Dec 297 Jan- march 1997 324 Apr- june 278 July-sep 257 Oct-dec 384 Jan-mar 1998 401 Apr-june 360 Jul-sep 335 Oct-Dec 462 Jan-mar 1999 481 Data above can be analyzed and used to forecast future sales the organization and hence make decisions on the operations and policies to be put in place by the firm with the aim of improving sales.Use of graph in forecasting; we can draw the curve of period against the quant ity to help us in forecasting on future sales.Center moving averages values are calculated but the seasonal components are ratio derived from A/T=S The calculation of this seasonal components are as shown in table below. The seasonal components ratios can be calculated from quarterly estimated.lefttopThis graph suggests that there might be increase in sales in future because there is upward trend of the general sales of the companyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s sale in the months provided. Though there might be some fluctuations in the trend the general trend is viewed to be upward. Hence, an organization can forecast that there is possibility that in future the firm will be experiencing more sales that current conditions. This will bring the organization to attention that it has to prepare itself by increasing its production to meet the future demand and by so doing the firm evades the problem of inability to meet the market demand of the product.Using calculation to forecastThe most common method o f calculating time series is moving averages method. in this method, additive model is used where by variation of a given data over a given period of time is derived, calculated and described by summing up the relevant components of data collected for the purposes of forecasting. In calculating time series the following procedure is used; * finding out seasonal components * perform deseasonalisation of the components then calculate the trend * subtract the trend values from deseasonalised values * calculate the mean average deviation and mean standard errorFrom the example above we can use it to forecast on future sales of the organization has follows;Date Quarter no Quantity sold centre 4 point moving average Centre 4 point moving average Seasonal components Jan-mar 1996 1 239 Apr-june 2 201 229.75 July-sep 3 182 240.375 0.7572 251 Oct-Dec 4 297 260.625 1.1396 270.25 Jan-mar 1997 5 324 279.625 1.1587 289 Apr-June 6 278 299.50 0.9282 310 July-sep 7 257 320 0.8031 330 Oct-Dec 8 384 340.25 1.1286 350.5 Jan-Mar 1998 9 401 ...

Evaluating a Process Analysis Essay

When developing a paragraph or essay through process analysis, you should keep several points in mind: Be sure to include all steps and arrange them in sequence.Explain why each step is necessary, and include warnings where appropriate.Define any terms that your readers may not be familiar with.Offer clear descriptions of any tools, materials, or equipment needed to carry out the process.Provide your readers with a way of determining whether or not the process has been carried out successfully. Heres a draft of a short process analysis essay, How to Make a Sand Castle. In terms of content, organization, and cohesion, the draft has both strengths and weaknesses. Read (and enjoy) this student composition, and then respond to the evaluation questions at the end. How to Make a Sand Castle For young and old alike, a trip to the beach means relaxation, adventure, and a temporary escape from the worries and responsibilities of ordinary life. Whether swimming or surfing, tossing a volleyball or just snoozing in the sand, a visit to the beach means fun. The only equipment you need is a twelve-inch deep pail, a small plastic shovel, and plenty of moist sand. Making a sandcastle is a favorite project of beach-goers of all ages. Begin by digging up a large amount of sand (enough to fill at least six pails) and arranging it in a pile. Then, scoop the sand into your pail, patting it down and leveling it off at the rim as you do. You can now construct the towers of your castle by placing one pailful of sand after another face down on the area of the beach that you have staked out for yourself. Make four towers, placing each mound twelve inches apart in a square. This done, you are ready to build the walls that connect the towers. Scoop up the sand along the perimeter of the fortress and arrange a wall six inches high and twelve inches long between each pair of towers in the square. By scooping up the sand in this fashion, you will not only create the walls of the castle, but you will also be digging out the moat that surrounds it. Now, with a steady hand, cut a one-inch square block out of every other inch along the circumference of each towe r. Your spatula will come in handy here. Of course, before doing this, you should use the spatula to smooth off the tops and sides of the walls and towers. You have now completed your very own sixteenth-century sandcastle. Though it may not last for centuries or even until the end of the afternoon, you can still take pride in your handicraft. Do make sure, however, that you have chosen a fairly isolated spot in which to work; otherwise, your masterpiece may be trampled by beach bums and children. Also, make a note on the high tides so that you have enough time to build your fortress before the ocean arrives to wash it all away. Evaluation Questions What important information seems to be missing from the introductory paragraph? Which sentence from the body paragraph might be placed more effectively in the introduction?Identify the transitional words and phrases used to guide the reader clearly from step to step in the body paragraph.Which piece of equipment mentioned in the body paragraph doesnt appear in the list at the end of the introductory paragraph?Suggest how the single long body paragraph might be effectively divided into two or three shorter paragraphs.Notice that the writer includes two warnings in the concluding paragraph of the essay. Where do you think these warnings should have been placed, and why?Which two steps have been listed in reverse order? Rewrite these steps, arranging them in a logical sequence.

Supportive Work Culture Free Essays

Need for supportive work culture – Gaming Industry Ravi Shankar Jayaman Today we have so many video games releasing every week. Most of the video games today bring in as much revenue as a Hollywood movie (reference needed). What was once considered a niche industry, thanks to various technological advancements, is no longer a niche industry. We will write a custom essay sample on Supportive Work Culture or any similar topic only for you Order Now We have video games releasing for different age groups. Like movies, we have different flavours of games. We have dance games, party games, racing games, shooting games etc. Today, there really is a video game for everyone An introduction to video games In 1958, William Higginbotham, a nuclear physicist, created what is now known as the very first video game – ‘Tennis for Two’ (reference). It was a two player tennis game played with two controllers. ‘Tennis for Two’ was meant for a small audience and was never seen as something people could make money from. This particular game was the inspiration to the first successful video game ever created ‘Pong’. ‘Pong’ was an arcade game that released in 1972. Pong’s success made people see gaming as a means of business and thus the gaming industry started. Today we have so many video games releasing every week. There are many different game consoles – ones that can be played at home and ones that are portable. We can also play video games on PC, tablets etcfor example (don’t use â€Å"etc† in a paper). Even the mobile phones we use every day can be used to play video games. All these factors have made the gaming industry a multibillion dollar industry. Today the gaming industry is worth more than the music industry and even Hollywood (reference). A new video game that is released today has a good chance to earn as much as a Hollywood movie would. In fact in more than a few cases a successful video game would make more money than most of the Ravi Shankar Jayaraman 211586823 Page 1 movies ever would. For example, the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops totaled in at $1 billion worldwide within the first 42 days of its release (reference). Video games have always been something that people associated with fun. People see video games as a means of entertainment especially when they are with family and friends. Video games are good stress busters and can help keep people’s minds at ease. Video games are very helpful even in educational institutions. In fact a few gamers were able to break the AIDS enzyme puzzle that has been troubling scientists for decades (reference). All these factors bode well with the booming gaming industry. Video games today can be both fun and educational. History of video game companies Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney are credited with establishing the very first video game company (reference). They created Atari Inc. in 1972. In 1972, Video games were relatively unknown. So, it was a very bold move by Bushnell and Dabney to venture into the unknown. Atari’s Pong was very successful and thus people started venturing into the video game industry. Today’s gaming companies are very different from the ones in the past. There are people working on video games almost throughout around the clock to meet the various strict deadlines. This is a lot of pressure on the video game developers to get their product out on to the market. We all know that video games are so much fun to play and are a great means of entertainment, but are they as much fun to make? Comment [JBC1]: Be careful of sweeping statements. Some people may not find video games fun. Gamers tend to be young and male. The Ugly side of gaming – Work culture in Video game companies The organizational structure in a video game industry is a network organization. Video game companies are virtual organizations in a network organizational structure. The video game console makers make the consoles and usually let the video game companies make games. There are companies that make Ravi Shankar Jayaraman 211586823 Page 2 exclusive games for only one of the platforms and there are companies that make games for all the platforms available. Irrespective of the kind of video game Company, such is the video game industry these days that every video game company has to be continuously releasing great games. All the companies compete among themselves to attract the ever growing number of people who are buying video games. Working in such a competitive industry can be challenging for anyone. The kind of work people do in the video game industry is not your regular 9 to 5 kind of work. This industry requires people to put in a lot of work hours. Sometimes at a level that is unsustainable and destructive. This could lead to employee burnout. Employee burnouts are quite common in the video game industry. The term crunch time is used pretty extensively in the video game industry. Crunch time can be defined as the point at which a team is failing to meet its deadlines and milestones which could affect the launch of a video game. The complex nature of video games these days makes it tough to predict when one can achieve a milestone or a deadline. During crunch time situations the video game company exerts pressure on its employees to put in more effort. The sad part is that in a few cases people are not paid for this overtime. There was even a lawsuit filed against Electronic Arts because of the company’s push to make employees work for longer hours (reference). Working for so long can not only make an employee tired, but also affect the employee psychologically. The mental stress involved could have a really bad effect on the employee’s health. Aggressive work schedules and strict deadlines are something that leads to mental stress on an employee. The companies can be too demanding at times and may cross the line by making an employee work more than what he/she was/is supposed to. The necessity of proper work culture and regulations to keep these kinds of adverse working conditions in check is really necessary. Ravi Shankar Jayaraman 211586823 Page 3 Team Bondage – The story behind the demise of Team Bondi Team Bondi was an Australian game developer that developed video games for all the video game consoles available in market today. The company was founded by Brendan McNamara, an ex-big gun from Sony, who had had vast experience in making video games (reference). McNamara was very successful with Sony and had made a number of hit games such as The Getaway. So, when McNamara founded Team Bondi in 2003, everyone believed that the company was destined for success. Team Bondi’s first game was announced in 2004 as L. A Noire. Sony had first dibs on this video game and worked out a deal for L. A Noire to be published by Sony. This meant that the game was exclusive for Sony’s Playstation 3. The game was expected to release in 2006-2007. In September 2006 news broke out that Sony has moved away from the deal of publishing the game. Rockstar took over from Sony and the game was expected to release in 2008. This was the first sign of things not being ‘OK’ with Team Bondi. There were then multiple delays and the game finally released in 2011, seven years after it was announced. The game got rave reviews from critics and gamers alike. It was a commercial hit and everyone thought that Team Bondi was destined for more success. Sadly, in October 2011 news broke out that Team Bondi has closed down. It was not clear why, even after a very successful debut game, would the company close down. All the happenings during the development of L. A Noire were then revealed and the reason behind Team Bondi’s closure became clearer. After the game’s release former staff of Team Bondi came out to reveal the disastrous work conditions while developing L. A Noire. It came to be known that Team Bondi was making its employees work overtime because of crunch. These overtime hours were not accounted for in the pay and there was extensive mental stress on the employees at Team Bondi. The former staff also questioned McNamara’s leadership. The former staff revealed that McNamara was a very angry person and also cited occasions when he shouted at employees. This style of leadership put off many people and many people quit. A Comment [JBC2]: Be explicit to be clear about his position at Sony. Ravi Shankar Jayaraman 211586823 Page 4 ew people were apparently so put off by McNamara’s leadership style that they vowed never to return to game industry again. Even Rockstar, the publisher of L. A Noire, cut ties with Team Bondi citing poor leadership/management skills of McNamara. The disastrous work conditions and leadership style led to the demise of Team Bondi. The story behind EA lawsuits Electronic Arts (EA) are one of the biggest game dev elopers in the world with revenues of over $3 billion (reference). EA are credited with a great record of releasing highly successful video games for over twenty years. In 2004 a blog showed up on the internet by someone named ‘ea_Spouse’. This blog explained how EA treated their employees. The blog highlighted mainly about the work culture followed in EA at that time. The blog said that employees were asked to work extensively for 12-14 hours six days a week and at times even seven days a week. The employees were reportedly given the occasional Saturday evening off for ‘good behaviour’. Employees were reportedly made to work up to 100 hours a week on a few occasions. All these overtime work done by employees were not accounted for. EA did not pay the employees for overtime. This forced the employees to file a lawsuit against EA (reference). The employees of EA successfully won this lawsuit. This particular lawsuit was a revolution of sorts and ensured that people in the gaming industry were paid on an hourly basis. Since this lawsuit hit EA very hard, EA were quick to take some positive steps to ensuring that no such events happen again. EA has taken steps to positively address work-life balance concerns. EA focused on long term planning, employee compensation and communication to improve work-life balance concerns. EA did an overhaul of its Human resource policies to make EA a better place to work in. John Riccitiello was appointed CEO of EA in February 2007 and he ensured that EA were serious about keeping the work culture good within EA. Ravi Shankar Jayaraman 211586823 Page 5 Importance of good work culture In these turbulent economic times, a lot is expected from the employees. An employee maybe required to put in the extra hours to get things done. An employee will be willing to put those extra hours only when the management recognizes the effort put by the employee. An employee will be more ommitted and motivated to his work when the management ensures a good supportive work culture within the organization. A good work culture keeps an employee more engaged to his work. A good work culture keeps the employee satisfied. A satisfied employee will in turn bring in more productivity and thus the organization is benefitted. Adding to the reasons above, a few other reasons on how a good support ive work culture helps the organization are listed below: 1. It retains talent: When an employee is satisfied with the work culture in an organization, he or she is very likely to continue working in the organization. When the employee is kept satisfied there is no reason for the employee to move out. 2. It attracts talent: A prospective employee looks at the work culture closely when assessing an organization. An employee usually looks for a change when the work culture in not that great. So, the company with a good work culture will be pretty high on the list for people looking for a change. 3. It creates synergy: A strong supportive work culture brings people together. When people can communicate with each other easily, everyone gets to know each other well. This brings the people together. When people communicate with each other well it improves the productivity of the employees. 4. It creates energy: Ravi Shankar Jayaraman 211586823 Page 6 When the culture shows that people are valued by the organization, it creates a lot of good energy in the organization. In such an organization people can express themselves and this creates a lot of positive energy. 5. It changes the view of work The word ‘work’ in itself does not mean anything fun. It means that one has to do certain things. This understanding of the meaning of ‘work’ can be changed if an organization has a good culture. When an organization takes an effort to have a good culture, work would become more fun and an employee would have fun doing it. 6. It makes everyone successful: Everything discussed above helps not only the employee but also the organization. A good work culture keeps an employee more engaged and more motivated to do his or her work. An employee will thus get more productive. This in turn helps the organization. This is a win-win for both employees and organization. In a very demanding industry such as the video game industry we can see how a good work culture helps. In such an industry the company plays a very important role to help keep the employee morale high. When a company follows a good culture, all the points mentioned above become valid. The organization would benefit in the long run. In fact having a good work culture can become a competitive advantage. Comment [JBC4]: A good work culture is more likely or has the potential to engage employees but it’s not a sure thing. Same comment regarding productivity. Comment [JBC3]: Another sweeping statement. Some people find work fun. Importance of employee satisfaction An unhappy employee is very bad for an organization. The employee will not be able to perform his tasks at his or her full potential level. This may in turn affect the quality of the product. So, it is very Ravi Shankar Jayaraman 211586823 Page 7 important to keep an employee satisfied especially in a very chaotic industry such as gaming. A happy and a satisfied employee will always give you a better result. The various factors affecting employee satisfaction are: Comment [JBC5]: Not necessarily. A happy and satisfied employee does not always relate to productivity, for example, they could be happy, satisfied and lazy or poor at their job. . Job Security: This is probably the most important factor affecting employee satisfaction. There is always consistent pressure on employees of a video game company to do well. The video game industry is a hit and miss industry. When a game does well commercially the companies reap benefits but when a game does not do that well the company gets a beating. So, job security is always on top of almost every employee’s mind. When a company can give proper assurances to their employees, the employees are bound to be happy and perform well. 2. Compensation and Benefits: This factor is a no rainer. Everyone wants more money and benefits and the company that gives their employees these benefits and pay are more likely to keep their employees satisfied. 3. Relationship with supervisor: The relationship between an employee and his or her immediate supervisor is very key to understand whether an employee is satisfied or not. The supervisor plays a very important role in keeping an employee satisfied. 4. The work itself: The work itself needs to be fun and engaging for an employee. A company that has a good work culture can ensure that the work is a lot of fun. As long as an employee is happy doing his or her work the employee is satisfied. Ravi Shankar Jayaraman 211586823 Page 8 There is a connection between work culture and employee satisfaction. A very good work culture can keep an employee satisfied. A satisfied employee is a boon to an organization. The productivity of the employee improves. This means that the quality of output will be pretty good. Isn’t that what every company wants? The way forward for video game companies There is no denying that the video game industry is a very challenging and demanding industry. There will be times when people will have to put in a lot of hours to get a game ready. These extra hours can be very intimidating for employees. Video game companies can make sure that these extra hours put by employees are not seen as a negative. The onus is on the video game companies to make sure that the work environment is more fun. Good Human resources management and supportive work culture can ensure the workplace to be more fun. The companies will then leave very little for employees to worry about. There are video game companies who have successfully done this. These companies have released great products too. These companies are proof to the fact that there is no tradeoff between good product and work culture/employee satisfaction. Two such companies are listed below: Insomniac Games: Insomniac games are an independent video game developer located in Burbank, California. They have been making video games ever since 1994 (reference). This company has consistently been ranked as a great place to work in. As recently as October 2011, entrepreneur rates Insomniac as the 16th best place to work in. Entrepreneur has highlighted the workplaces practices at Insomniac games. 2K Studios Australia Ravi Shankar Jayaraman 211586823 Page 9 It was initially called irrational games. This is a very small video game company that has been doing well financially and also in maintaining a good work culture at work place. Small studios are very vulnerable in a competitive industry and this studio has survived the competition. They released Bioshock in 2007 and this was the biggest game to release in 2007. The company is widely recognized as one of the most innovative development studios in the world. After looking at all the stories in the video game industry, we can come to a conclusion that video game industry is a pretty unique industry. It is a great mix of technology and entertainment, but at the same time it is a very challenging industry. Playing video games can be so much fun, but the making of video games is almost never as much fun. Aggressive work schedules, strict deadlines and mental stress can make jobs in this industry very demanding. In such an industry good work culture is a necessity. A great supportive work culture can keep an employee satisfied and improve employee productivity. With a good work culture in place the employee can excel and be on top of his or her ‘game’ (no pun intended). Ravi Shankar Jayaraman 211586823 Page 10 References David Hinkle. (2011, July 5). APA (American Psychological Association)

Question: Discuss about the APA (American Psychological Association). Answer: Introduction: The study comprises of the information regarding storing, sharing and examining healthcares IT or information technology related processes and the impact of IT on healthcare organizations. The medicinal services associations use HIT or wellbeing data innovation for enhancing understanding consideration (Alijohani, Davis Connolly, 2015). Not just the medicinal services associations can make utilization of the wellbeing IT. Additionally, the patients can utilize HIS for reaching specialists and making a meeting with them. The former parts presented the theoretical premise for the field of biomedical informatics, including the utilization of patient information in clinical practice and research. We presently center consideration on the patient record, regularly alluded to as the patient's outline on the other hand restorative record (Hsiao Hing, 2012). The Requirement of Information Technology: At present world, the need of data innovation is exceptionally vital. As the number of patients has expanded in a decade ago and persistently expanding it is a cerebral pain to physically handle all the data. Furthermore, through data innovation, the human services associations can give more care to the patients. In view of the new live video benefit, the patients don't have to visit the specialists any longer (Piho et al., 2014). Portable applications can be utilized for setting arrangement amongst specialist and patient. Along these lines, the patient fulfillment will expand step by step. The data frameworks are likewise effective to deal with all the human services' inside procedures, for example, appointing medical caretakers, specialist, making installments and getting installments. The reason for a patient information is to evaluate perceptions, to brighten others, to instruct substitutes, to pick up evidence, for screening execution. Moreover, it is useful in terms of legitimizing intercessions (Alijohani, Davis Connolly, 2015). The numerous utilizations portrayed in this announcement, in spite of the fact that different, have a solitary objectiveto advance the utilization of wellbeing sciences in ways that enhance the prosperity of patients, including the behavior of examination and general wellbeing exercises that address populace wellbeing. However, observational investigations of doctors' utilization of the paper-based record find that logistical, hierarchical, and other viable confinements lessen the adequacy of customary records for putting away and sorting out an ever-increasing number of different information. An electronic wellbeing record or EHR is intended to overcome huge numbers of these restrictions, and also to give extra advantages that can't be accomplished by a static perspective of occasions (Hsiao Hing, 2012). Importance of Information Technology in Healthcare Survival: Data and correspondence innovations or ICTs envelop all advanced advances that encourage the electronic catch, handling, stockpiling and trade of data. ICTs can possibly address a hefty portion of the difficulties that human services frameworks are as of now going up against. ICT applications could enhance data administration, access to wellbeing administrations, quality and security of consideration, congruity of administrations, and costs regulation. Besides, patients need clinicians to utilize ICTs (Alijohani, Davis Connolly, 2015). With expanding computerization in each area of action, ICTs are relied upon to wind up apparatuses that are a piece of medicinal services proficient practice. In any case, it creates the impression that few ICT applications remain underused by medicinal services experts. Medicinal services associations, especially doctor practices, are regularly brought up as recognizably lingering behind in the reception of these advancements. Human and hierarchical components have often been recognized as the primary driver of ICT execution disappointment (Hsiao Hing, 2012). Information Technology Requirements: Cost: The IT can be executed in an association through two ways. In the first place, actualizing the in-house framework and second, cloud based framework. For two of the cases, the expense is distinctive (Goossen, 2014). For cloud benefit, the shopper association needs to pay just the month to month or week after week charges, and the expense of the assets are totally of the supplier. The in-house framework alludes to the framework that exists in the workplace reason, and all the expense must be banished by the association. In spite of the fact that on account of cloud based framework, the framework is sent in the cloud and the association get to the framework through the sound web association (Schwalbe, 2015). Planning: The arranging stage relies on upon the necessities of the medicinal services association. It comprises of the worries like a number of assets are required and what conveyance model to be utilized (Cresswell Sheikh, 2013). The nature of administration and danger minimization are likewise incorporated into the arranging stage. Designing: The framework and the underlying accesses and processes of the system are the concern of the designing part (Goossen, 2014). Utensils: Hardware, software, disaster recovery, backup, database and much more are the different apparatuses that should be chosen precisely before conveying the framework (Schwalbe, 2015). Installation: Experienced and all around qualified staff will be in charge of introducing the framework. From the framework to the required assets, all the apparatuses must be introduced appropriately, and they should have the association between them (Cresswell Sheikh, 2013). Use of Information Technology in Healthcare: A PC based patient-record (EHR) framework includes data management strategies to provide linkages with learning hotspots for medicinal services choice backing, clinical updates and cautions, and investigation of total information both for look after research (Latha, Murthy Sunitha, 2012). To utilize a paper-based patient record, the pursuer must control information either rationally or on paper to gather critical clinical data. Conversely, an EHR framework gives PC based apparatuses to help the pursuer arrange, translate, and respond to information (Liu et al., 2015). Achieving the client are presently a simple errand. In the event that the patient is neglecting to visit a specialist for more than two times, then he or she are reached. Also, the applications that are introduced in the cell phones gets notification of the arrangement before a day so that the patient keep in mind. In medicinal services business diminishing the expense of the procedure is an incredibly favorable position. As the IT will consequently do the greater part of the minor and medium errands, the cost paying extra workers will be not anymore required (Ciampa Revels, 2012). It will likewise do the redundant works for lessening the expense of running exercises. The IT additionally help with expanding the profitability of the procedures in any case whether those are interior or outside. The accomplishing of medicinal services gets upgraded as the procedures turn out to be more associated and are executed in arrangement (Goossen, 2014). The shot of blending the obligations of the laborer gets just about dispensed with. The contact with the solution supplier and other utensil suppliers get expanded. The patients can contact the specialist instantly from anyplace. For getting the arrangement, they don't have to visit the human services (Ciampa Revels, 2012). For minor cases, the patients can do video talks with the specialist. Benefit of Using IT in Healthcare: The use of IT is an advantage for healthcare organizations as it offers as following. Enhancing security and protection of patient data. Reducing paper works through the utilization of EHR HER (Magrabi et al., 2013). Provide better coordination between the specialists and patients. Through speaking with each other, the human services associations are finding new conceivable outcomes (Venkatesh, Thong Xu, 2012). Risks of Integrating IT in Healthcare: Data is everything in business. So losing the data can mean losing business. In the event that the human services loses key data, it most likely will get influenced by the money related issues. Security is an enormous issue as far as data innovation (Magrabi et al., 2013). The assailants can hack the framework and get all the profitable data. In the event that the data of the patient gets unapproved workforce, it will be against the privacy. Maintenance and Monitoring of IT in Healthcare: For checking the business, the social insurance associations are making utilization of electronic wellbeing record (Venkatesh, Thong Xu, 2012). It stores all the data of the patient and makes it accessible to the approved staff. Recommendations: The recommendations are following. Security: The security must be increased in terms of information flowing from organization to organization to patient. Internal networks must be using new security controls. The patients also have to more secure and contribute to the cause (Ciampa Revels, 2012). Productivity: For increasing productivity, more analysis on the processes. The connection between activities and involvement of healthcare staffs and patents must be improved (Magrabi et al., 2013). Conclusion: The conclusion that can be gathered from the above conclusion is that use of IT in the right way can provide enormous profit in every possible way. The framework mechanizes a significant number of the low, mid and repetitive procedures. The last conclusion is that the HIS can acquire advantage leading business in the social insurance industry, yet it must be utilized appropriately to get the advantage from it. The human services data framework makes utilization of electronic wellbeing record for putting away and recovering patient data. The cutting edge innovations will be utilized for upgrading the patient fulfillment. The electronic wellbeing record builds the proficiency of information accessibility. Keeping up the framework after usage is urgent for any association as the imperfection in upkeep won't give any benefit to the association. References: Alijohani, A., Davis, P., Connolly, R. (2015). The Crusades Essay Example For Students

The Crusades Essay The CrusadesThe 11th century brought good things to the Eastern Mediterranean. There were generally no immense problems to deal with, as everything was in a very tranquil state. The people who lived there went with the flow, but what they did not know is that they would soon be part of a turning point in religious history. A large group of Christians formed a small military which was called the Crusaders. They were out to recapture the Holy land from the Muslims, and dedicated their lives to this. They were identified by red cloth that was sewn on their garments in the form of a cross. This indicated that they were the soldiers of Christ. Their name, The Crusaders was derived from the Latin word crux meaning cross, this then in turn was a reference to the biblical ruling that good Christians always carry a cross. The Crusaders existence was based on strong religious beliefs more then any of the other minor reasons they were established. The Crusaders also resurrected an older tradition of the pilgrimage to the Holy Land, which was often imposed as a reconciliation of your-self. They assumed two roles: pilgrims and soliders. Armed pilgrims would normally not be accepted, but in this case they were, because they were fighting for the Christian Holy Land. This made the war justifiable in their eyes. In the 7th century the Muslims took control of Jerusalem, and in the 11th century they began to hassle and interfere with Christian pilgrims and teaching in the Jerusalem area. To the Christians Jerusalem was a heavenly city, the center of their existence and they did not take lightly to being pushed out. The Popes encouragement, religious indulgences, and promise of eternal merit provoked thousands of Christians to enroll in this holy military to fight for the cause. The Crusades were also a response to the cries of help from the Byzantine Empire, who was very worried about a gaining threat in the form of the Seljuk Turks. In 1071 Jerusalem was taken and the Byzantine army went down at Miniskirt to the Turks. This caused a bad economic state for the west and the Crusades were a last stab at extending trade routes and bring the Byzantine Empire to a status that matched a rich and flourishing Italy. Late in the year of 1095 Pope Urban announced on Tuesday, November 27 that he would hold a public session to make an announcement. This was the beginning of what was to be the First Crusade. He thought that western Christendom should march to the rescue of the East. Rich and poor alike should go and they should stop murdering each other and instead fight a great war for what they really believe in. They believed it was Gods will and that God would lead them to victory. During his speech many interruptions took place.People yelled and rallied behind Pope Urban and other crowd members. Just after the Pope ended his speech the bishop of Le Puy dropped to his knees and asked permission to join what was first called the Holy Expedition. The crowd quickly embraced him and many followed with his example. Each man involved with the expedition was to wear a cross in symbolization of his dedication. Anyone who took this cross vowed to go to Jerusalem and fight. By August 15th everyone who was leaving was to be ready. The armies meet in Constantinople. When all arrived Pope Urban made clear that the crusade was under the control of the church, and appointed Bishop Le Puy as the their leader. This was the beginning of a great movement. The Byzantine emperor Alexious I provided the crusaders with food and shelter; he also attempted to get oaths of loyalty from them but the crusaders that would not agree. .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 , .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 .postImageUrl , .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 , .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671:hover , .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671:visited , .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671:active { border:0!important; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671:active , .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671 .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u6ec1d084d2477d066de3b6a5cc3cb671:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Why Choose Abstinence Essay This caused distrust in the emperor. Which lead to the fall of Constantinople. Life during the first crusade was horrible. Men pushed themselves to their limits, they pushed on because their life would be prosperous and joyful and they would truly befriend god when it was all over. During the many years this campaign went on it finally ended and this letter was seen as an icon to the Crusades victory. This letter was translated into English:For on the very day on which they had promised that they would surrender, Solomon and all the Turks, collected from neighboring and distant regions, suddenly fell upon us and attempted to capture our camp. However the count of St. Gilles, with the remaining Franks, made and attack upon them and killed an innumerable multitude. All the others fled in confusion. Our men, moreover, returning in victory and bearing many heads fixed upon pikes and spears, furnished a joyful spectacle for the people of God In religious terms, the Crusades, hardened Muslim attitudes toward Christians. At the same time, doubts were raised among Christians about Gods will, the churchs authority, and the role of the papacy. Religious commitment halted to disinterest, and skepticism. On the other hand, the Crusades did stimulate religious enthusiasm on a broad scale. The Crusades continued many years after Pope Urban originally lead them to Constantinople. The Mediterranean had an addiction to warfare. The Crusades helped some religions, but they had to destroy and oppress others so many question if what they were doing was or did further an advancement in religion. Written by J. Marketing Swot and Pest Analysis on Aston Martin 2008 Essay Example

Marketing Swot and Pest Analysis on Aston Martin 2008 Essay The current economic crisis has spread havoc across local and global markets. There can be no place for doubt that certain automobile manufacturers and retailers would also suffer to some extent from the catastrophe. The car industry is a huge entity that has several different subdivisions, and it is quite intriguing to see how consumer behaviour shifts across these sublevels of the automobile market and how different brands engage in dealing with the arising instability. Aston Martin is one of the most famous UK brands and one of the top marquees for top-end sports cars in the entire world. Established in 1914 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford, Aston Martin, has gone through a lot and many changes have occurred in its history including the change of ownership several times most recently in 2007, which also happens to be the company’s most successful year of sales when it brought 7300 cars to the roads. Today the UK car manufacturer proudly occupies one of the leading positions in the market for luxury vehicles and seems like it is planning to expand further from that. When it comes to assessing socio-cultural factors that determine the external environment of Aston Martin one has to understand this is a company that exists on an international level. It has over 100 dealerships in about thirty countries around the globe including the US, Russia, Japan, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, China (Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd). We will write a custom essay sample on Marketing Swot and Pest Analysis on Aston Martin 2008 specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Marketing Swot and Pest Analysis on Aston Martin 2008 specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Marketing Swot and Pest Analysis on Aston Martin 2008 specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer Apart from the fact that it would be extremely difficult to collect and process socio-cultural information about possible clients in these countries, a company that deals with top-end car manufacturing is certainly not targeting the average household, or any group of people that can be denoted by a common feature other than wealth. The percentage of people that possess the spending power to buy an Aston Martin is rather low anywhere around the world. Buyers of such cars occupy the higher levels of society in most countries but of course for Aston Martin it would be most profitable to establish a dealership in areas with high concentration of people with the ability and willingness to spend; example of areas of such potential are Monaco, Kuwait, and Dubai. It is a fact that the Middle East has GDP rates rising higher than anywhere else on the planet, and chief executive Ulrich Bez has taken that into account when developing the company’s future growth plan (Bowker 2008, para. ). Taking technology into consideration one can see that Aston Martin is a bit old-fashioned in terms of manufacturing, nevertheless that does not hinder their ability to combine discipline in crafting with innovative approach and creativity. Nowadays car engineering is split between mechanical and electronic engineering. Aston Martin emphasizes on the use of manual labour to get the job done, whereas their counterparts from Porsche rely on the precisi on of computers in the assembly of their cars. Unquestionably Aston Martin strives to utilize every unit of input in order to create perfection as a final product. Their cars represent a splendid blend of heritage and innovation in terms of design and vision, and also excel when it comes to performance on the road. Undeniably Aston Martin’s headquarters at Gaydon in the UK is one of the finest car production facilities in the world. At Gaydon Aston Martins are being assembled manually bit by bit to create a masterpiece (Aston Martin Lagonda Limited). The â€Å"heart† of every car is its engine, and engines for Aston Martins are primarily V8 and V12, which are all products of the specialised Niehl Engine Plant that was build during the Ford regime in Cologne, Germany. Presently Aston Martin engines are still being produced at the factory in Cologne; however, recent news of a deal between Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin (Kacher 2008) has caused speculations about the use of Mercedes-built engines in the new Astons, which would definitely be an upgrade for the British car manufacturer. Among the major victims of the economic catastrophe at the moment is the car market. The crisis worsens is evident; figures for the UK in October 2008, historically one of the two busiest months on the calendar for car purchases, are down by 21% in comparison to the previous year (Pollard 2008). However, it seems that some car companies have gained advantage of the current economic situation. Present market conditions are beneficial for companies that offer lightweight cars with small, fuel-efficient engines such as Smart, which has more than doubled its sales with a rise of 105% in 2008 compared to last year’s (Pollard 2008). Aston Martin on the other hand has suffered a 26% fall in its sales, year-to year figures dropping from a total of 1978 sales up until last year’s November to 1479 units up until the same month this year (Moody 2008 p. 44). As gloomy as the situation might seems for Aston Martin it is the same for their direct competitor Bentley, which is experiencing the same decline in sales. The UK Car market is in its worst condition since 1966 (Pollard 2008). The existing situation presents an unprecedented slowdown compared to the major rise of car sales in the past several years. The credit crunch has effectively crippled the entire European car market excluding only a few countries. â€Å"Warwickshire car maker Aston Martin is suffering from the economic downturn but is hoping to offset weakness in the UK and United States with bigger sales in emerging markets – with the Middle East a key target. † (Bowker 2008, para. 1). The stagnation that has seized Europe presently regarding automobile market may be the reason why Aston Martin’s chief-executive Ulrich Bez has decided to shift the focus of the company’s future growth plans towards the Middle East market where the situation looks a lot better. However, that is not the only option for Aston Martin. Going further east China and India’s economies are undergoing such rapid development that is unparalleled by nothing before it. There are definitely many more markets for Aston Martin to explore and possibly exploit. Some of the difficulties that Aston Martin will have to face in the years to come are the regulations that the EU is imposing on CO2 emissions for cars. Currently several EU bodies are struggling to reach a consensus regarding this issue. The scheme that is presently proposed states that by 2012 all car-making companies need to begin efficient reduction in the emission of CO2 from their products in order for all newly manufactured cars to reach a mark of 130 grams of CO2 per kilometre by the year of 2015 and supposedly a maximum of 95g/km of CO2 is the goal for 2020 (ClimateBiz 2008). These figures are quite upsetting for companies such as Aston Martin. Their cars are top-end luxury sports cars that exceed on average the 2015 maximum by approximately three times. The DBS for example has CO2 emission of approximately 388g/km (Pepper 2008). Even though there are fierce debates taking place in the European Parliament regarding the reduction of CO2 emissions, it is certain that car manufacturers will have to lower the carbon dioxide exhausts from their engines. Turning to the internal marketing environment that Aston Martin operates in one must acknowledge that the target customer for the company is not by any means an average person. Price is a vital factor when it comes to defining consumer behaviour, and Aston Martin is aware of that fact, that is why they offer basic models of their cars at prices a lot lower than the ones of the premium models. People buying an Aston Martin are able to choose from a wide range of accessories and specifications to go in their cars, which means that the price spectrum also fluctuates. The lowest price for a new volume-produced Aston Martin in the current market is ? 83 194 for the Aston Martin Vantage model (Pepper 2008), which is still a tremendous amount of money. Nevertheless, an exquisite product such as Aston Martin classifies as a luxury good that is designed to suit a sophisticated taste. A buyer of an Aston Martin would choose such a car to match his lifestyle, to satisfy his personal desires, not needs. If we could apply the Maslow’s hierarchy pyramid to the case with a person buying an Aston Martin we would expect this person to satisfy one of the higher levels of the pyramid with such a purchase, whereas a Toyota Corolla or a Volkswagen Golf for example would be a necessity for one of the lower stages. If we could create a profile for the average Aston Martin buyer we would get a male, probably single with affinity for luxury and sense of style, and of course having the capital to afford an Aston Martin. Nevertheless, changes in consumer demand do affect Aston Martin as well, so the UK automobile brand will be making changes in its production line. Among the company’s new projects for 2009 is the Rapide, which is going to be an entirely new member of the Aston Martin car family not the usual two-door, two-seats drive, but instead it will be a saloon car. The new Rapide will offer more space, which was the major aspect that all previous Aston Martin models were lacking. This is clearly an attempt by Aston Martin to make its entry into another section of the car industry by offering its client more utility. There is a high chance that market might witness the appearance of an Aston Martin hybrid quite soon, which would be a ‘child’ of a rumoured Aston Martin – Mercedes Benz alliance (Kacher 2008). A jewel that Aston Martin is going to add to its crown is also a new car that is due to come out in 2009 – the Aston Martin ‘one-77’, the price of which will orbit around ? 1. 2million(BBC Magazines Limited). Servicing customer’s concerns is crucial for every company that is why the Warwickshire company provides one of the best Service Works for their vehicles. Their facility based in Newport Pagnell offers premium services that vary from fixing small flaws, renovation of heritage cars to repairing severely damaged vehicles. (Cooke and de Burton 2007, p. 62). Aston Martin evidently is striving to portray a strong brand image that is also concerned with the satisfaction of its customers, and that seems to be paying off as the car manufacturer was selected to be the coolest brand in the UK for the year 2007 (CNN 2007). The industry in which Aston Martin competes primarily is the top-end car market, and that is a market which most of the biggest car companies strive to dominate. Direct competitors for Aston Martin’s products are Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Mercedes, and many other brands although the once mentioned are the fiercest rivals. The British car company seemed as strong as ever last year recording top sales for its 95 year history but with the already occurring market stagnation will it continue to do so well. Following the example of many other industries in the same situation, Aston Martin has launched a cooperative programme with one of its competitors, namely Mercedes-Benz (Kacher 2008). The advantages to be seized for Aston Martin’s specialists from the deal are tremendous as the UK engineers would be gaining access to the research and development department of the German automobile titan. Another vital aspect of the deal is the future cooperation in the creation of hybrid-powered Aston Martins, which would tackle very successfully issues with fuel inefficiency and CO2 emissions. Another important decision was made by Ulrich Bez regarding his company’s future; one of the newest volume models to commence production will be built outside the UK, which is a precedent in the history of the company. The task for the assembly and production of the Aston Martin Rapide is assigned to the Austrian Magna Steyr company. Aston Martin has undergone a turbulent transformation in the past, most of that is due to the change of ownership. The UK brand was purchased by Ford Motor Company in 1987 but twenty years later Ford parted with Aston Martin and sold the British car company to a consortium headed by David Richards’s Prodrive and part of which are two Kuwaiti investment houses – Investment Dar and Adeem Investment (Aston Martin Lagonda Limited). The shift seems to have taken Aston Martin to new heights taking into account the company’s last year achievements, the announcement of the stunning new projects like Aston Maritn Rapide and the ‘177’, and even the possible future cooperation with Mercedes-Benz. Nevertheless, the economic status quo raises issues which are tough to be dealt with even by a company like Aston Martin. In an attempt to tackle the problem with the financial upheaval the UK car company has decided to ‘decimate’ its personnel. In all three hundred permanent posts nd exactly the same amount of temporary jobs will be liquidated within the company from a total of 1850 people currently employed (Pollard 2008). Despite the drawbacks of this loss Aston Martin’s chief executive Ulrich Bez states that Aston Martin will not be shutting down or reducing production and the new projects will be making their market debut according to the company’s initial schemes. Aston Mar tin has a strong brand name existing for 95 years, during which it has acquired and developed expertise in the manufacturing of luxury sports cars. This puts company in a leading position as a world top-end car manufacturer with a major influence on the highest levels of the car market. Recent change in ownership also proves to be beneficial for Aston Martin so far. Probable joint operations with Mercedes-Benz are likely to boost the UK automobile maker even higher in the overall car market ranking. Expansion into new markets in the Middle East has become also a top priority of the company at the moment. These factors, combined with the adequate management that has proven itself over the past, compose the strength of the company. Currently Aston Martin only holds a tiny share of the world car market. The company has entrusted the production of a new car series to a foreign manufacturer which is clearly shows the lack of production power. The UK manufacturer is also attempting to enter new markets in terms of car diversification, but that might prove catastrophic because of the swiftness with which the plans are being executed and the current economic climate. Especially when a company like Aston Martin is forced to cut down on its operating personnel it means that production will fall and no matter what the company will suffer. The potential mutual programme between Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin could prove very beneficial for Aston Martin. For a small company specialised in a single branch of the car industry a partnership with Mercedes could mean access to the research and development, using Mercedes patents and technology along with Mercedes-built engines and other components. Considering the market instability at the moment Aston Martin could possibly widen their range of automobiles to the levels below the premium. Using hybrid-engine technology implements in Aston Martin engineering is a viable option. Further territorial growth is definitely a chance for Aston Martin to win market share. Major threat to Aston Martin’s future is the EU regulations that are to be enforced in 2012 regarding CO2 emissions. Fluctuating fuel prices and possible fuel shortage also pose danger to the position of the brand on the market. Customers’ increasing tendency to buy fuel-efficient, environment-friendly cars will definitely put the UK manufacturer at stake. Not last comes the threat from the potential alliance with Mercedes. A large foreign company with much interest in a small manufacturer like Aston Martin could prove to be devastating for the image of the UK brand and might threaten its future. Making the correct choices is crucial for Aston Martin in the current marketing environment. For a brand with such expertise in luxury cars it would be wise to keep the production coming, making sure the new products are upgrades of the previous ones. Another improvement for Aston Martin would be to take their products to markets where other industries are flourishing and cash is flowing in – the Middle East and Asia. Trying to tune up with the growing concern for fuel efficiency and environment conservation Aston Martin should look more seriously into hybrid-fuelled cars like many other car manufacturers have. Advertising is an area where measures need to be taken, not only when it comes to entering new markets, but also promoting in already established ones with emphasizing the distinguishing characteristics of the brand.
