I know one popular thing that students love about Homecoming is every day during the week, the Illini Union usually hands out free food on the Quad! Yesterday they gave out Einstein Bros. bagels out to students. College students always love the opportunity of free food. The most exciting thing planned for Homecoming so far was when Saturday Night Live alum Jay Pharoah came to do stand-up comedy on the Quad. Im a huge stand-up comedy and Saturday Night Live fan myself, so this was an opportunity I couldnt miss. The best part of the event was that it was free! All you needed was your student i-card! The event was held at Anniversary Plaza, which is located on the Quad side of the Illini Union. It was cool seeing a live comedy show on the Quad where all my classes are. It really transformed into an event where hundreds of students brought blankets to watch the comedian. Seeing someone who Ive seen on national television come to Champaign-Urbana was simply surreal. During the show, Pharoah did his impeccable Barack Obama and Denzel Washington impression. The students laughed at his brilliant jokes for 90 minutes. Im looking forward to future Homecoming events where we can get more comedians to come to campus.
